THE GULF OF BARATTI
The splendid Gulf of Baratti, the small marina, a wonderful iron beach, dunes covered with myrtle and juniper trees , a centuries-old pine forest, and the Etruscan necropolis.
Baratti will offer you this and more, seafood restaurants and typical cuisine, beach bars and establishments, a well-equipped lawn, and the possibility of organizing boat trips and diving, visits to archaeological parks, and sailing courses.
The beautiful beach, which drops gently into the waters of the gulf, is safeguarded behind it by a dense pine forest that every year, when spring arrives, is populated with families, children and young people, ready to enjoy the first hints of the beautiful season.
And if you are fond of snorkeling and diving, Baratti is a real treasure all to be discovered: its wealth of flora and fauna will make you lose track of time (perhaps, if you are not equipped with a good wetsuit, the temperature of the water will at some point bring you back with your feet on dry land!), but the real treasures may also be hiding among the rocks at the ends of the gulf or under the sandy seabed that from time to time returns the remains of that civilization so far away but at the same time so present.
From Populonia it is a 15-minute walk to the Gulf of Baratti via the ancient “Romanella” road. A shuttle service provided by the municipality of Piombino is also available during the summer period from the parking lot just outside the castle walls.
